The rule
Texas allows a posted drink discount. Last call is generally 2 a.m. Some downtown licences are part of a later entertainment district; the venue’s close is the one to trust.
The custom
East Austin, South Congress, and the Domain are different cities at 5 p.m. The local deal is often a beer and a taco rather than a $10 martini, though the hotel bars downtown do the martini too. Happy hour starts early because patios fill early. A Monday “industry” night is for service workers and is not the public list.
