How happy hour works in Houston
A Texas happy hour: legal, long, air-conditioned, and spread across a city that does not do one downtown.
United States rules and habits →
The rule
Texas permits a posted drink discount. The state’s attention is on not serving an intoxicated person and on hours, which are generally until 2 a.m. unless a city has chosen otherwise. Unlimited alcohol for one price is the format to be careful with; a timed cheaper glass is ordinary and legal.
The custom
Montrose, the Heights, Rice Village, and EaDo each have their own 4-to-7. Downtown is for the offices and thinner after 6. Patios in October are the point; patios in August are theoretical. Tex-Mex and a margarita are as much the deal as a cocktail list.
