How happy hour works in Miami

Miami’s happy hour is early, outdoors, and legal. The deal is a real drink discount, and the room is often a patio.

The rule

Florida allows a posted drink discount. There is no statewide cap on how long a happy hour may run. Two-for-one is a normal format, especially on South Beach and in hotel bars. Standard last call across Florida is 2 a.m.; a given licence can differ, so the venue’s own close is the one that counts.

The custom

The window often starts at 4, sometimes at 3, and it is built for heat: patios in Brickell, Edgewater, Wynwood, and the Beach. Ceviche, oysters, and a spritz show up as often as a well drink. Late-night is a second market and should not be confused with the after-work board. Fort Lauderdale, a few miles north, is the same state law and a beach-town version of the same hour.
