Worth knowing in Montreal

Montreal calls it a 5 à 7. The rooms that print a price are the ones on the card.

The rule

Quebec tolerates a posted 5 à 7 and does not allow it to be advertised. You must be 18. The price on the menu is before GST, the Quebec sales tax, and tip, unless the venue says tax is included. See the Canada page.

The custom

The hour is 5 to 7, then dinner or a later room. The Plateau and the Main do a cocktail, a pint and a glass of wine. Quartier Latin does the same on the nights the room is open. A place that becomes a club after 11 is still a 5 à 7 if the early list has a price.

Using the Atlas here

Every Montreal card in this first wave was read on the venue’s own site in October 2026. A line at $10.99 or $13 is one drink at that price. A page that says “5 à 7” and does not print the price is not on the list.

Across Canada

Canadian happy hour is the same shape as the American one — a posted afternoon window — with provincial minimum prices underneath it and a tax line that does not match the US bill.
