The happy hour

Drinks

  • Beer, wine and cocktails —

Prices usually include 10% consumption tax. Hotel bars often include a 10–15% service charge as well; when a venue adds it on top, the deal note says so.

US dollar amounts are a mid-market estimate as of 2026-10-28, not the venue's price. The venue charges yen.

The English page says the price includes tax. The Japanese page says tax and service are both included.

Deal last verified 2026-10-28. Confirmed on the venue’s own website.

Worth knowing in Tokyo

Tokyo’s happy hour is a hotel-bar hour. The izakaya next door is inexpensive all night, and that is a different thing.

The rule

Japan allows a posted drink discount. There is no statutory happy-hour clock. You must be 20. Consumption tax is usually inside the menu price. A hotel often adds 10–15% service, or includes it and says so. See the Japan page for the street-drinking limit around Shibuya Station and for why an all-you-can-drink set is not a per-glass deal.

The custom

The windows cluster from mid-afternoon to about 8, before dinner seatings and before some bars add a cover. Ginza, Yurakucho, and Marunouchi are the after-work walk. Roppongi and Akasaka are the hotel version. Shibuya’s published hour is up a tower, not on the crossing. Shinagawa’s is the JW Marriott bar at Takanawa. Ueno’s is a hotel bistro in the afternoon. A ¥777 sign in Ginza and a ¥1,320 cocktail in Roppongi are both real, and only one of them has already folded the service charge into the number.

Using the Atlas here

Every Tokyo card in this first wave was read on the venue’s own site in October 2026. If the note says service is extra, add it. If the offer is “30% off” or “three drinks and a snack for ¥2,000,” that is the deal, not a single cocktail at that price. Neighborhood izakaya without a clock are not missing by accident.

Across Japan

Japan does not ban a happy hour, and most of the country does not use the word. In Tokyo the posted window lives in hotel bars. The izakaya around the corner has a price, not a clock.
